GLP-1 Insurance Coverage Checker: What Your Plan Type Usually Means for Wegovy and Zepbound
Coverage for Wegovy and Zepbound depends almost entirely on what type of insurance you have, not which company underwrites it. Pick your situation below to see what’s typical — then confirm the specifics with your plan.
What Type of Health Insurance Do You Have?
Employer or Marketplace Commercial Insurance
If your plan covers weight-loss medication, the Wegovy Savings Card can bring your cost to as little as $25/month (capped at $100/month in savings), and the Zepbound Savings Card can bring the single-dose Pen to $25 for a 3-month supply.
If your plan doesn’t cover it, Zepbound has a separate flat rate of $299/month through the same savings program.
One thing that trips people up: ACA marketplace plans and state-employee plans are government-regulated, but they still count as “commercial” for savings-card eligibility — they are not treated as government insurance. The Federal Employees Health Benefits (FEHB) Program is the same way.
Medicare
The standard manufacturer savings cards exclude Medicare. But starting July 1, 2026, eligible Medicare patients can get Wegovy for $50/month through the new Medicare GLP-1 Bridge program, if it’s prescribed for a covered, FDA-approved indication. This isn’t a guarantee of coverage — eligibility is set by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).
Zepbound coverage under Medicare depends on your specific diagnosis: obesity, overweight with a weight-related medical condition, or moderate-to-severe obstructive sleep apnea with obesity. There’s no single published Medicare price for Zepbound — it varies by plan.
Medicaid, VA, TRICARE, or Other Government Program
Coverage varies significantly by state for Medicaid, and by branch for VA and TRICARE. Neither the standard Wegovy nor Zepbound savings card applies to any government insurance program.
Your most reliable next step is calling the number on your insurance card and asking specifically: “Is this medication covered for weight loss, or only for type 2 diabetes?” Most plans treat those two answers very differently, even for the same drug.
No Insurance
Without insurance, both manufacturers sell direct through their own pharmacy channels. Wegovy runs $149–$399/month through NovoCare Pharmacy depending on dose and form. Zepbound runs a flat $299/month through LillyDirect.
Both options let you self-pay directly with the manufacturer — no pharmacy benefit or insurance company involved at all.
